Men & Women of Faith: Responses July through September

Starting in January 2014, I began sending my kids the story of a man or woman of faith each month! I've been collecting feedback shared in the kids' letters and wanted to share it with you. Here are the responses for July, August and September (Samuel Morris, Gladys Alward, and Martin Luther). Enjoy!

Japhet from Kenya: "Thank you for the story of Gladys Alward and William Wilberforce."

Earl John from the Philippines: "The story of Gladys Alward is really impressive, she desired to free the children and I've learned something from her story."

Mary from Bolivia: "Mary wants to thank you for Gladys's history."

Japhet from Kenya: "Thank you for the story of Martin Luther. I would like to be faithful like Martin Luther."

Jhomary from Bolivia: "It is a valuable story you told me about the woman who helped many children, even though she wasn't able to stay in the missionary school and didn't know the language. I also liked to learn about the life of Martin Luther. He fought for the Christians."

Earl John from the Philippines: "And I'm also pleased with the story of Martin Luther and he played a big part in correcting the wrong beliefs of the Catholic Church. And though he was sentenced to death, he was saved."

Men & Women of Faith: Responses April through June

Starting in January 2014, I began sending my kids the story of a man or woman of faith each month! I've been collecting feedback shared in the kids' letters and wanted to share it with you. Here are the responses for April, May and June (Nate Saint, John Newton, and William Wilberforce). Enjoy!

Japhet from Kenya: "I have not heard the song of John Newton [Amazing Grace] but my hope that I will hear it soon." (I will send my kids the text for Amazing Grace in an upcoming letter!)

Japhet from Kenya: "Thank you for the story of Gladys Alward and William Wilberforce."

Jenny from Indonesia: "Your story about Nate Saint is good. He is a brave character. So is John Newton, who was so brave to return to God. Thank you for these stories, which really motivate me and open my knowledge wider."

Earl John from the Philippines: "Ma'am & Sir, the story of John Newton is impressive. He was very far from God but finally became a servant of God."

Cissy from Uganda: "I love the stories that you send me especially about Amazing Grace by Newton John (John Newton). I was so amazed and glad."

Maria from Bolivia: "What a nice story of John Newton."

Magreth from Tanzania: "Am much happy that you shared with me the story of William, I really like the story and am expecting other stories from you."

Jenny from Indonesia: "I really love the story of William Wilberforce. The great man to fight for the freedom of slaves and no slavery. What a wonderful fight."

Sidewalk Games: Responses April through June

Starting in January 2014, I began sending my kids a sidewalk game each month! I've been collecting feedback shared in the kids' letters and wanted to share it with you. We have heard responses concerning the letters sent in April, May and June (Hoppe Srikk, Kolka Chhupathi, and La Luna y Las Estrellas de la Manaña). Enjoy!

Japhet from Kenya: "I have never played Kokla Chhupathi game but I will try to play… Thank you for the map of Pakistan and to inform me that the second highest mountain is in Pakistan."

Jenny from Indonesia: "The games from Norway sound like our traditional game here, Tali Merdeka. But I will try this game with my friends. It must be fun!"

Earl John from the Philippines: "And I noticed that the Pakistan mountain is so high. In the Philippines, the Chhupatti is the "hanky falling" and we are playing it with my friends in our home and in our school. A child who is "it" holds the hanky and the children sit down in a circle; boys and girls. While singing, "it" drops the hanky (while going around the circle) to a child who ran after him and if he does not touch him, he becomes the next "it."

Magreth from Tanzania: "And am very happy for you to share with me the Spanish game. I really like the game."

Jenny from Indonesia: "I shall try the Kabbadi game (from India) and La Luna y Las Estrellas de la Manaña from Spain with my friends. It sounds so much fun."

Selam from Ethiopia: "Thank you. The letter has helped me to know about God and about Spain's traditional game. I play the game with my friends in our extra time. I hope you will send me another traditional game."

Sidewalk Games: Responses January through March

Starting in January 2014, I began sending my kids a sidewalk game each month! I've been collecting feedback shared in the kids' letters and wanted to share it with you. So far, we have only heard responses concerning the letters sent in January, February and March (Tirar Frijoles, British Bulldog, and Main Karet Gelang). Enjoy!

Earl John from the Philippines: "Thanks for the beans relay game, will try to play this with my classmates someday, I think it's nice."

Maria from Bolivia: "I learned to play games with the little beans. I have never played that. It is about throwing beans. I enjoyed what you wrote about that game. I enjoyed that you stuck the pictures near the map of Bolivia."

Japhet from Kenya: "I have never played Main Karet Gelang, but I would like to try to play the game."

Mary from Bolivia: "Mary really likes to play the games!! Oh!! Mary likes the games that you taught her. Mary really likes to play with marbles and beans along with her friends of the project of Compassion and her tutor was supervising the games. They also played the game called "British Bulldog" and it was very fun and they were scared to touch the other players. Mary has a special game called "Lobo-Lobito"…" (Mary also included a very detailed explanation of her special game…I plan on sharing it with the other kids soon and will share it with you all when I do!)

Dayan from Honduras: It is a very interesting the game that people play in Indonesia. Here we play something similar called Tecnica and I practice it a lot. I thank you for telling me about the games children play in other countries. I tried to play them. I thank you for the game that you sent me; I share it with my sister."

Tresor from Rwanda: "Thank you so much for a lovely letter you sent me. I was very delighted to hear about Amy Carmichael."

Earl John from the Philippines: "I appreciate the life of the missionary Amy Carmichael, she was really full of sacrifice in her life. I think of her as a good example to a Christian woman." "I'm thanking you for the letters you sent me, and I have read about Corrie ten Boom and Eric Liddell and it is really good to read about their life story."

Marlon from Nicaragua: "I feel so happy and thankful for your sponsorship and I tell you that I received your letters and read the story of Amy Carmichael. I think it is an interesting story."

Julissa from Nicaragua: "Thank you for sharing the beautiful history where we can see God's love. Reflecting on Amy's life, although she felt disappointed many times the Bible verse in 1 Corinthians helped her to stand and look at the perfect pint in spite of the troubles she was facing. Thank you, Hannah, for sharing that real story, which is great."

Maria from Bolivia: "The stories you told me are very nice for example about Eric Liddell who is a great runner. He marked a record."

Jenny from Indonesia: "I love reading your story, Mama Hannah, about Amy Carmichael--a woman who defended children's rights and save them.

Cissy from Uganda: "Thank you for the story of Boom (Corrie ten Boom). I loved it."

Mary from Bolivia: "Mary liked the story that you told her. She wants to share another story with you and this story also is a story of World War II…" (Mary then went on to share a detailed description of a WWII story…since it took over a page for her brother to write it out, I'll won't put it here, but suffice it to say, Mary must have really enjoyed Corrie ten Boom's story!)

Jenny from Indonesia: "The characters like Eric Liddell and Corrie ten Boom are so great. I read your letter, Mama Hannah, I was so encouraged with their ministries."
